Consumers lost a lot confidence and faith in Samsung after news of the Galaxy Note 7's exploding batteries came to light. Now, could it be that the South Korean tech giant has also become wary of using its own components? The latest reports suggest that Samsung will be enlisting the help of one of its rivals in developing the Galaxy Note 8.

According to a report from The Investor, the next-generation phablet will be equipped with batteries built by LG Chem, a battery supplier under the LG Corporation. Given the disaster caused by the Galaxy Note 7, the battery is one of the most important aspects for the upcoming phablet. Samsung would not want to release another fire-prone device so it is reportedly looking to diversify its suppliers for the Galaxy Note 8.

"The talks have not yet been completed but it seems highly likely for the two firms to sign a deal," a source told the South Korean publication.

Samsung is also reportedly in talks with Hong-Kong based Amperex Technology Limited (ATL) to supply batteries for the Galaxy Note 8.

Earlier this month, the cause of the Galaxy Note 7's explosion was finally confirmed. It was said that the battery used was too big for the very slim form factor of the phablet. When the battery swelled during normal usage, the interaction of chemicals inside the battery most likely contributed to the volatile nature of the phablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is rumored to be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2017. However, given that it will take about six months to design, test and produce the batteries, an August 2017 launch date could also be likely. To recall, the Galaxy Note 7 was introduced last August.

At this time, Samsung has yet to confirm that the Galaxy Note 8 is indeed in development. As such, news about its specs and release date should be taken with a grain of salt.
