Samsung Galaxy S6 Review: Specs Crushes Rivals in Benchmark Tests
Smartphones from the Apple lineup have always been fast. Recently, however, several phones have been overtaking the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in benchmark tests.
Since the release of the Galaxy S6 and its variant the S6 Edge, the devices have quickly risen to the top of the heap in several benchmark tests, showing that Samsung derived a huge amount of benefit by opting to go with its home-grown Exynos 7420 chipset.
Even before the release of the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge, a leaked benchmark test showed the new flagship phones from Samsung crushing their rivals. Recently, the German site Computer Base performed a number of benchmark tests which subsequently proved that the S6 is at the top when it comes to multi-core performance. In this specific area, the phone was 56 percent percent faster than the iPhone 6, which has an A8 chipset form Apple.
This was not surprising as the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are over six months old, and many other devices have started to overtake them. But what got everyone interested was that the Galaxy S6 was found 15 percent faster than other Android-based flagships such as the HTC One M9 which has the latest Snapdragon 810 chipset onboard.
The only area where Apple iPhone 6 managed to score over the Galaxy S6 was in terms of single core performance.
But the Apple flagship again trailed behind its competitor when it came to gaming. In the 3DMark and GFXBench 3 tests the Galaxy S6 was 15 to 20 percent faster than the iPhone 6. However, the Exynos 7420 still trailed the Snapdragon 810 and Tegra K1 chip which are faster.
According to Forbes, much of the improvement in the Galaxy S6 can be traced to the new Exynos 7420 chipset, adding that it could be one reason why Apple has chosen to partner with Samsung. This partnership according to Forbes could see the improvements in the Exynos 7420 chip finding its way into A9 chip which Apple plans to use in its upcoming iPhone line.
