Samsung Galaxy S8 release date and specs rumors: Samsung to speed up the release of the S8?
The release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has turned to be quite the fiasco for the South Korean tech company, and rumor has it that they will be speeding up the release of the Galaxy S8 in order to get a new flagship smartphone to cover up any recent mishaps.
Reports are suggesting that the S8 will be released near the end of the year or in early 2017. So far, Samsung released devices in the Galaxy S lineup around March or April, but seeing that they are now under heavy scrutiny for the Galaxy Note 7's exploding battery, they could very much use another device to get back on the consumers' good side.
The phone is said to be coming out in two different versions, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Edge. Some have even guessed that one of the devices will be called the Galaxy S8 Plus, but seeing that Apple was the first one to use that suffix, it may not be something that they are willing to do.
As for specs, the premium version of the S8 is said to be able to handle 4K display while the lower-tier versions will have 2K. The S8 will have a 5-inch screen while the S8 Edge will be a lot larger with 5.5 inches.
The phones are also expected to come with the latest Android OS, the Android 7.0 Nougat, and it will be powered by the Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm. Other reports, however, suggest that it could run on Samsung's Exynos processor.
As for the price tag, the Galaxy S8 is said to cost only a little more than the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The estimated price would put the S8 at $735 and the S8 Edge at $783.
No official release date has been announced for the Samsung Galaxy S8.
