Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, news, specs rumors: Samsung's flagship smartphone will have an autofocus front camera
Selfie addicts are going to love what Samsung has planned for the Galaxy S8. Thanks to Korean news publication ET News, word has gotten out that Samsung is planning to improve the quality of the images taken with the front camera by putting the autofocus actuator feature used in rear cameras into the front-facing one.
"People are starting to take more selfies and number of demands for cameras that take selfies with higher qualities is increasing," an industry insider told ET News. "It is heard that Samsung Electronics has decided to install front actuators for Galaxy S8 in order to differentiate its flagship Smartphone."
Well, if the rumors are true, consumers can say goodbye to those 5-megapixel (MP) front cameras that Samsung always puts on its flagship smartphones. This move can endear the Galaxy S8 to the selfie generation, and hopefully, it can make people forget about the debacle caused by the Note 7.
Reports say the Galaxy S8 is going to be thinner than the Galaxy S7, so it will be interesting to see how they can add the autofocus technology without affecting the thickness of the smartphone. The ET News report did mention that the encoder-type actuators are going to keep the cameras from sticking out of the smartphone.
Meanwhile, industry insiders generally believe that Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy S8 ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade show next year in Barcelona. The trade show will take place on Feb. 27, so expect Samsung to make some noise when that day draws near.
Sources say Samsung will come out with a 5.7-inch screen Galaxy S8, and the Galaxy S8 plus will allegedly have a 6.2-inch screen that is close to being a true edge-to-edge display.
BGR has also reported that there were rumors from Weibo saying the basic model of the Galaxy S8 will come with 256 GB of internal storage space. It will also have a microSD slot that can add up to 256 GB of additional storage.
