Samsung Gear 360 VR release date news 2016: Samsung's latest VR camera to arrive in August
Samsung's virtual reality (VR) camera, Gear 360, was first introduced to the public last February at the Mobile World Congress. Afterwards, the South Korean tech giant's latest device was made available in different locations in the world except the United States. The good news is that the tech enthusiasts in the United States do not need to wait any longer as Samsung announced the arrival of Gear 360 in the markets starting on August 19.
As Tech Crunch reported, people residing in the United States who are lucky enough to obtain the VR camera were only able to purchase the Samsung Gear 360 by checking in to Anaheim and Lollapalooza back in June. Still, the stock of the VR cameras was very limited and only a few people were able to have one.
The special announcement of Samsung regarding Gear 360 was made during the special Samsung Galaxy Note 7 event in New York earlier this week. It was revealed that the device will be available in the American markets. Many had anticipated that the Gear 360 will be released in the United States along with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. This time, the VR camera was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 7, which was the main focus on the event last August 2.
The official announcement of the Samsung Gear 360 in New York did not disclose the unit price of the gadget. However, it was revealed in a press release from Verizon Wireless that the Gear 360 will be sold for $349.99 in selected Verizon Destination stores, Tech Times reported. This press release came in after Samsung's announcement. Meanwhile, a separate info from a German website listed the Gear 360 with $396 unit price.
It was already rumored back in April that the Gear 360 camera would arrive in selected areas in Asia. Afterwards, the device was formally launched in Singapore and South Korea towards the end of that month.
The distinct physical feature of the Gear 360 is its ball-shaped appearance with two lenses that allows the users to capture images and videos in 360-degree view. Each of these lenses is a fisheye that has 195-degree viewing angle capacity. Samsung's latest VR camera is also water and dust-resistant. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, perfect for transferring images and videos
