San Antonio Spurs trade news: Greg Monroe may be a target for the Spurs
With the San Antonio Spurs now without Tim Duncan for the first time in 19 seasons, they might be looking elsewhere to try and fill in the void.
At the moment, the Spurs' present is still with Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili as they have the experience and leadership to keep the Spurs afloat, but they definitely need more to contend with the tough Western Conference.
LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard are the team's future and they are expected to do well under the guidance of the Spurs coaching staff, but Yibada reported that the team may be looking for another big man to help solidify their team: Greg Monroe.
Trying to maintain their tested formula of having twin towers, the Spurs are reportedly looking at the Milwaukee Bucks center to add height and offensive prowess to their line-up.
Monroe is a proven commodity on the offensive end, as he has constantly shown during his tenure with the Detroit Pistons and the Bucks.
Entering his seventh year in the league, Monroe was picked seventh overall but has yet to experience playoff basketball.
He helped the Bucks achieve a lot last season, but his absence on the defensive end is seen as a big liability especially in how the Bucks play.
With the Spurs, many believe that Monroe will be forced to play defense and that will only help him develop as a complete player so it may be a risk worth taking for San Antonio.
His average of 14.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game is also very welcome as it can give the Spurs another threat underneath to complement Aldridge and Leonard who can operate on the opposite wing.
One thing to consider is Monroe's contract with the Bucks which is until the 2017-18 season.
For the coming year, Monroe is set to earn around $17.1 million, with the final year given a player option at $17.9 million.
It should be an interesting addition if it does come to fruition.
