San Antonio Spurs trade rumors update: Bonner may be out of the team

Matt Bonner is not hesitant to admit that his time with the San Antonio Spurs may be over.

At 36 years old, Bonner now sees his playing time dwindle fast with the coming of new players, and he is ready to try playing for another team if the opportunity opens itself.

According to Ecumenical News, the big man admits that he may be out of favor in the Texas outfit with the addition of Pau Gasol to the lineup, meaning that his already limited minutes will be taken from him.

Add the fact that the Spurs are still with a youthful big man in LaMarcus Aldridge, the "Red Mamba" admits that he may go elsewhere.

Speaking with Concord News Radio, Bonner claimed: "Unless something changes going into the season, I'm probably not going to be with the Spurs."

Christian Today also believes that is to be the case, but claims the Spurs' attempts to lure Rudy Gay to the club may also be pushing Bonner out of the team.

San Antonio headed into last season with high hopes as they had a great line-up of Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Kahwi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Many thought they were a lock for the Western Conference Finals until they were eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in surprise fashion.

Now, Duncan has retired, and the team is looking to add more players to keep them relevant in the Western Conference.

It appears they are ready to do that if that means parting ways with Bonner who spent 10 seasons with the club as he won two NBA championships with them during the 2006-07 and 2013-14 seasons.

He was never the best player on the team, but he had a great role from the bench as he averaged 5.5 points per game with the Spurs as he shot 46 percent from the field.

Other teams that may consider Bonner are those who are looking for a veteran presence with championship experience.
