"Scandal" season 6 has not returned to television yet. The show seems to be facing too many problems that may be affecting its comeback to the smaller screens.

One reason for the show's delay is Kerry Washington's pregnancy. "Scandal" writers have been very supportive of the actress' child-bearing, although some reports would say otherwise. Nonetheless, one undeniable fact is that having a pregnant woman on set makes things complicated. Olivia Pope, Kerry's character on the show, is not pregnant which leads to challenges for the show.

Season 6 writers had to make a choice of either writing Kerry's pregnancy into the show or hiding it completely. In the end, "Scandal" season 6 chose to make things simpler by just hiding her pregnancy. In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, Kerry revealed that hiding her baby bump had been strategically done by using big bags, big coats, and even by hiding behind body parts of other actors.

However, now that Kerry have successfully delivered her baby boy, the show is expected to resume filming and production for the few remaining episodes of "Scandal" season 6.

The Shonda Rhimes-produced series is expected to pick up right on Election day, where Mellie grant, played by Bellamy Young, and Frankie Vargas, played by Ricardo Chavira, go against each other for the U.S. presidency.

Meanwhile, rumors are sprouting about the cancellation of the "Scandal." Reports say that there are signs that point to the cancellation of the series. One is the change in time slot. History has shown that when a show doesn't get enough viewership, the network moves it to a new air time. The show runs in that new schedule for some number of days and is usually followed by a cancellation. Viewers are worried about "Scandal's" fate since ABC has placed "Notorious" in its timeslot.

It has also been confirmed that Rhimes and Betsy Beers will be working on another legal drama that has yet to be titled. This, on top of the other projects that Rhimes is working on might affect the showrunner's attention on the series, which further strengthens the rumors about the show nearing its end.

In a more positive light, ABC is still standing by its word that "Scandal" season 6 will air in January 2017.
