Schindler's List World War 2 Game: Moon Studios' Thomas Mahler Planning New WWII Game
The current crop of World War II-based games concentrate only on shooting Nazis and did not explore the history of the period or human psychology, said Thomas Mahler, the CEO of Moon Studios, the developers behind the successful game "Ori and the Blind Forest."
In a recent interview, Mahler said he had invested his own money in a game being developed based on World War II with a format resembling the storyline in the Steven Spielberg movie "Schindler's List."
Mahler said he wanted the game, titled "Project Memoir," to be a "piece of art," something he would be proud to have his name on.
The game is about a Jew from Slovakia who during World War II was sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp and subsequently escaped in 1944. He then went on to uncover the horrors perpetrated by the Nazis and make the world aware of them. His real life story would form the basis of the game which was being developed as an interactive documentary.
As for the funding for the game, Mahler said he did not want to take it to major companies like Microsoft and Activision since the game could be highly controversial. "Right now there is no way in this industry to make something like a Schindler's List for games," he said.
He said the team working on "Project Memoir" is drawing inspiration from the "The Walking Dead" game created by Telltale.
