Scorpion season 3 spoilers: huge sink hole threatens the water supply in Los Angeles

The team must work fast to save a man and the entire Los Angeles water supply in the next episode of "Scorpion" season 3.

Based on the trailer for the episode titled "The Hole Truth," a group of workers will hastily try to evacuate their operation site as the ground threatens to collapse. Once outside the tunnel, a massive sinkhole will appear.

But the sinkhole will be the least of their problems since the nearby silo containing chemicals will be in danger of falling into the sinkhole. If this happens, the whole water supply of the Los Angeles resident will be contaminated. This is why Team Scorpion will be summoned so they can come up with a scientific solution to prevent the silo from falling into the giant hole.

The Futon Critic posted the synopsis for the upcoming episode, which reads: "Team Scorpion must save a man teetering on the edge of a massive sink hole that threatens to destroy the Los Angeles water supply forever."

"The 100" alum, Michael Beach, will appear in the upcoming episode as the leader of the underground workers. Meanwhile, "Switched at Birth" star Lea Thompson is also expected to reprise her role as Paige Dineen's (Katharine McPhee) estranged mother, Veronica, who suddenly returned to help the team solve a case in the previous episode.

In an interview with TVLine, McPhee hinted that things will soon sort out between Paige and her mother after the two of them worked in difficult cases. "Paige goes through a process of really struggling with getting closer to her mother. But by the end [of Thompson's current run] there's a really sweet bond that gets created between the two of them, one that sort of mends some of the past," the actress stated.

CBS will release the next episode of "Scorpion" season 3 on Monday, Jan. 23.
