'Scream Queens' season 2 air date, cast & spoilers news: Kirstie Alley boards season 2 as series regular
Emmy-winning actress Kirstie Alley is the latest addition to the growing list of new cast members in the upcoming "Scream Queens" season 2.
The "Cheers" alum is boarding the FOX comedy/horror show as its new series regular, Deadline has learned. While Fox has not revealed her character's name, Alley's season 2 role is described as being a "brilliant and devious" administrator at the C.U.R.E. Institute, Cathy Munsch's (Jamie Lee Curtis) new hospital.
A press release from the network described Alley as "one of the great actresses of her generation, proving time and again that she is capable of great depth and range, as well as possessing a comedic timing second to none."
While she is most popular for her role in "Cheers," Alley is also known for starring in the "Look Who's Talking" films, "Shoot to Kill" (1988), and "It Takes Two" (1995). She also starred as the titular character in the NBC sitcom "Veronica's Closet" and as Maddie Banks in the TV Land comedy "Kirstie."
The Hollywood Reporter noted that Alley's casting in "Scream Queens" season 2 is the latest coup for "Scream Queens" co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, who have cast a number of Hollywood stars in their various TV shows. In previous years, the two managed to secure Lady Gaga and Jessica Lange for "American Horror Story," Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow for "Glee," and Cuba Gooding, Jr. and John Travolta for "American Crime Story."
In "Scream Queens" season 2, Alley joins series returnees Emma Roberts (Chanel Oberlin), Lea Michele (Hester Ulrich), Keke Palmer (Zayday Williams), Abigail Breslin (Chanel #5), Billie Lourd (Chanel #3), Glen Powell (Chad Radwell), and Niecy Nash (Officer Denise Hemphill), as well as newbies John Stamos (Dr. Brock Holt), Taylor Lautner (Dr. Cassidy Cascade), and James Earl (Chamberlain Jackson).
"Scream Queens" season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 9 p.m. EDT on FOX.
