'Shadowhunters' season 2 news: Second season returns to Freeform in January 2017
In a few months, the TV adaptation of Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" will be returning to the small screen. "Shadowhunters" season 2 is expected to return to Freeform next year
The network recently announced that the upcoming season will be returning on the first month of 2017.
The announcement was made through Twitter, a few days after the network revealed the first preview for season 2. On the Twitter post, fans were treated to a photo featuring Clare's well-loved characters.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Todd Slavkin revealed that forthcoming season will pick up shortly after the end of last season's finale.
Furthermore, the showrunner also teased that fans will be seeing two very different characters explore a potential romantic relationship. Magnus and Alec will find out next season if they can or if they want to be in a relationship with each other.
"They're from such two different worlds – one's a warlock, one's a shadowhunter," Slavkin told EW.
"One is super experienced and has lived for centuries and has bedded many, many, many men and women, and here's Alec, who is a young lad who's just leaping into the world of relationships. We thought it was great in season 1, and it's a relationship that we're deeply invested in and has such interesting potential," he added.
As previously reported, Clary (Katherine McNamara) will be turning into a different character next season. The mundane will be venturing into the world of the shadowhunters. Though she will be honing her skills, she will not forget her mundane upbringing.
In an interview with VVV magazine, McNamara revealed that her character will be solidifying her place in the world of the shadowhunters by honing her skills and learning more about her gifts. As she learns more about this new world, her mundane upbringing will help her become a new kind of shadowhunter.
