The relationship between Kevin (Steve Howey), Veronica (Shanola Hampton) and Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter) will evolve from just a green-card marriage into one big happy family in the upcoming seventh season of Showtime's hit comedy-drama "Shameless."

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Hampton hinted that the series will be exploring polyamory in a way that hasn't been shown on broadcast TV before. "[Veronica] fell in love with a woman and her husband loved her enough to accept this relationship and add it to their own relationship," she explained. "For her to make that choice, it wasn't to make it temporary — this is her new life and new family."

According to executive producer Nancy Pimental, the chemistry between the actors helped the "thrupple" seem more authentic. The story arc, which started back in season 6, began when Kevin and Veronica broke up and Svetlana needed a place to stay. For her and her culture, she gave payment for the pair's generosity by cleaning the house, paying the rent and occasionally giving sexual favors to Kevin and Veronica. "It started as showing a different take on a different culture and a different point of view of sex," the EP continued.

Sunday's season 7 premiere picks up with the three characters living under one roof and functioning as a family unit. Kevin and Veronica finally decide to start a full-fledged relationship with Svetlana that goes beyond physical intimacy. At home, they will put up a white board documenting bar shifts, chores and who is responsible for watching their three kids.

Overall, the trio seems to be happy in their new setup as the previous season saw them optimistic about how they will be changing things in the household. However, just like in every typical relationship, jealousy may come into play. Though it might be possible, Hampton said the bigger issue will be Kevin feeling as if the two women are ganging up on him.

"Men always think that it's going to be great to have two women in bed, but you also get two women bitching you the hell out and bossing you around to clean the house," the actress laughs.

"Shameless" season 7 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
