'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers, news: Janina Gavankar talks about replacing Nicole Beharie; new trailer released
"Sleepy Hollow" returns to the airwaves on Friday after a long hiatus, and a new trailer for season 4 has been released.
Following the death of Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) last season, Fox has revamped the mystery drama by bringing in a new lineup of cast members and setting the story in a new location. The latest trailer for the series offers a glimpse into the future of Ichabod (Tom Mison) and his team of supernatural hunters, as well as the first look at his new partner Diana Thomas (Janina Gavankar).
Gavankar, who is known for her previous role in HBO's "True Blood" as Luna, recently caught up with TV Line, and she mentioned that being on the Fox program is her third time to join a show as a series regular for its fourth season. "'The L Word,' 'True Blood,' 'Sleepy Hollow.' Bizarre. It's like, 'Oh, we've got to fill a spot, who are we going to call? Call Janina.' Its very strange," the actress said.
While taking part in an established show has gotten easier for her, Gavankar admits that she still feels the pressure of playing the female lead in the wake of Beharie's controversial departure last year. Gavankar is well aware that fans expect highly from her, and despite the pressure, she seems to take it all in her stride.
"I'm not an idiot," Gavankar candidly continued. "I'm totally nervous that people are going to hate me. But someone had to take the job, and I was so honored that [Sleepy] called me in the first place. I wasn't going to say no," she went on to say.
An ex-Marine-turned-Homeland Security agent, Gavankar's Diana crosses paths with Ichabod in Crane Washington, D.C. because of a supernatural encounter. Though she's skeptical about anything otherworldly at first, Diana soon finds herself working with Ichabod and his team to combat evil forces.
The fourth season of "Sleepy Hollow" premieres on Friday, Jan. 6, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
