Bandai Namco celebrates the 20th anniversary of the "SoulCalibur" game franchise with a new trailer that concludes with the phrase, "The legend will never die." Could this be a hint that "SoulCalibur VI" will soon be in the gaming world's midst?

According to Metro, the actual birthday of the "SoulCalibur" series is fairly difficult to determine. The series began with coin-op "Soul Edge," released in Japanese arcades as early as December 1995. The game was then released in Japan on the PlayStation 1 on Dec. 20, 1996 (which is probably the date Bandai Namco is basing the anniversary on). It was then launched in early 1997 as "Soul Blade" in America and Europe.

The 20th-anniversary trailer features a series of clips from all the main installments of the "SoulCalibur" game franchise, which sparks nostalgia to those who have followed the franchise since its earlier years. However, it may create hope for some fans that after "Tekken 7," "SoulCalibur 6" will be the next priority of Bandai Namco.

Bandai Namco also created a separate website for the 20th-anniversary celebration. However, the website, which is written in Japanese, does not show any clue about launching a new game for the "SoulCalibur" franchise.

Also featured on the website is the announcement of the "SoulCalibur" Pachislot. It is a new entry in the series, and it is set to be released in late January 2017.

The last main installment in the "SoulCalibur" series is "SoulCalibur V," which was released back in 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. It is the sixth main installment and the second game that features online bouts.

The most recent spin-off from the franchise is "SoulCalibur: Unbreakable Soul" which was released in May 2014. With the game receiving unfavorable views from critics and gamers, fans of the franchise are hoping for a new game that will redeem the entire series and will allow gamers to properly celebrate its 20th anniversary.
