'Star Wars Battlefront 2' latest news: Game to feature characters from new films
Electronic Arts' executive Blake Jorgensen recently teased that fans should expect a "lot of new characters" from the new films on "Star Wars Battlefront 2" during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference.
His words match those of Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson, who said during an EA Investors' Call that the upcoming game will be bigger, will cover more locations, and will have playable "heroes and characters across multiple Star Wars eras."
This was met with excitement by fans, given that the previous lineup of playable characters for "Star Wars Battlefront 2" only included those from the original and prequel trilogies. These announcements could mean that the heroes and villains of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and maybe even "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" such as Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren, could be featured, if not actually become playable characters in the game.
The first "Battlefront" game already saw some new characters being brought into the picture as downloadable content (DLC). The DLC titled "Rogue One: Scarif" was released, featuring "Star Wars: Rogue One" characters and settings. The "Battle of Jakku" DLC was also released for the same game, and it is a first-person shooter mode set during the events of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
Another piece of news about "Star Wars Battlefront 2" that is making a lot of fans excited is that it will have a single-player campaign, which was absent in the first game title. This mode, which is being made in partnership with Motive Studios, can expand the "Star Wars" universe even further by providing more backstories for the characters or by showing the events that happened off-camera but are still within the storyline of the film series.
The new game will also feature a Skirmish mode, which will allow players to combat bots offline. The first game can only be played when players are online.
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" is scheduled to be released during the 2017 holidays.
