'Star Wars: Battlefront' Scarif DLC release date news update: 'Rogue One' DLC out December to coincide with movie launch?
Now that the "Death Star" downloadable content (DLC) for "Star Wars Battlefront" has been released, all eyes are now on the "Rogue One Scarif" expansion.
Inspired by the upcoming "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the DLC will reportedly be released around the same time the movie hits the cinemas.
Electronic Arts (EA) has already said before that the "Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One Scarif" DLC will not be released until early next year, which means that the film should have been released for weeks or months by that time.
However, Gotta Be Mobile is suggesting that EA will surprise everyone and release the "Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One Scarif" DLC this December. The film comes out Dec. 16.
It will make sense that EA releases the film the same time the film is out to take advantage of the hype around "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
However, it is important to note that in the past, EA decided against including content based on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" while the movie was still in theaters and even beyond that because of licensing issues.
EA had to wait until Disney approves of the release of such content. This might be the case in "Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One Scarif" as well, which would explain a possible early 2017 launch.
It will, however, be a lucrative decision to release the DLC by the yearend as both parties (EA and Disney) will likely benefit from the outcome of that.
In the end, of course, it will come down to Disney as it owns the "Star Wars" franchise. With that said, fans will just have to wait for official word from EA.
With regards to the content, the "Star Wars Battlefront" DLC will have protagonist Jyn Erso and the imperial director Krennic as the playable characters for "Rogue One Scarif."
