'Star Wars Episode 8' release date, latest news: Official trailer to be released in spring 2017?
After the commercial and critical success of "Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens," many Star Wars fans were anticipating that a teaser or a preview of the main franchise's eighth film installment will be unveiled during the premiere of the Star Wars standalone film "Rogue One." However, such did not happen, and recent reports suggest that curious fans will have to wait until next year for a "Star Wars: Episode 8" trailer.
In a recent interview with journalist Lizo Mzmiba, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy discussed when fans might expect to see some clips from the much-anticipated eighth film installment to the "Star Wars" saga. Though fans are expectant to see a promo clip or two during the launch of Rogue One, it looks like Lucasfilm has resolved to give "Rogue One" a chance to shine based on its own merits.
"Pretty soon. We're giving this [Rogue One] a little breathing room. Probably heading into spring, you'll start to see things," Kennedy said.
In an interview with Empire Online, actress Daisy Ridley, who portrays the role of Rey, revealed her own theory about when a possible trailer of 'Star Wars: Episode 8" could be released.
"I could probably ask, but Rogue One is out in like a week, so I guess we'll let that come out, be amazing, let people respond to that first. One step at a time! I know there's Celebration next year. Hopefully something will be shown there? That's speculation, by the way," Ridley said.
Combining Ridley's theory and Kennedy's revelation that fans may expect something about "Star Wars: Episode 8" by spring 2017, it is very likely that fans may get to see the launch of the upcoming film's official trailer during next year's Star Wars Celebration on April 13.
"Star Wars: Episode 8" is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. The final installment will be released sometime in 2018.
