'Star Wars: Episode 8' release date, news: Rey to meet puffin-like creatures in Ahch-To
Rey (Daisy Ridley) might have gotten a chance to catch her breath after climbing all the way to where Luke (Mark Hamill) was, but new reports are saying that she might have to get back into action before the dust settles.
According to MakingStarWars, Luke wasn't living alone in the island and he actually have some companions. Strange ones at that. The island inhabitants were allegedly avian in nature and they were designed to look like the puffins in the area where Ahch-To was set. The Ahch-To scenes were shot at the island of Skellig Michael off the coast of Ireland, by the way.
These creatures have razor sharp teeth and they were supposed to look like a cross between a bird and a Gremlin. MakingStarWars didn't exactly specify which Gremlin they were referring to. The cute one or the ugly ones? It's probably the first one because these creatures are going to be the "Star Wars" version of a Furby. Well, at least they aren't the Ewoks, or worse, the Gungans.
These puffin-like creatures may seem harmless, but Rey's not exactly welcome in the island. According to MakingStarWars, a puffin who considers himself the "protector of the island(s) on Ahch-To" has allowed Luke to take up residence there, but Rey is just a stranger who happens to appear one day.
The puffin-like creatures are not heartless, though. They will let Rey stay — for a price. Apparently, there is also a scene where Rey is fighting a rather large sea monster, and MakingStarWars has speculated that the puffins must have asked Rey to face the monster before they can allow her to stay in the island. However, the publication has noted that the scene may be unrelated to her predicament.
What about R2-D2 (Jimmy Vee) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo)? Do they have to fight, too?
"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.
