'Star Wars Rebels' season 3 rumors: Could Ahsoka turn to the dark side?
Fan favorite character from the "Clone Wars" Ahsoka Tano was happily welcomed by fans to "Star Wars Rebels," but her appearance may have been cut short when her fate was left ambiguous in the season 2 finale. After Vader stepped out of the ruins of the Sith temple, viewers got a short glimpse of Ahsoka walking deeper into the caverns. "Rebels" creator Dave Filoni teases that it's possible that the show kills one of the main characters or turns them to the Dark Side this season, and there's a high chance that it could be Ahsoka.
Filoni has taken some of his time to explain what sort of directions the upcoming season of "Rebels" is going. Speaking with SlashFilm, he says, "You know I would say absolutely you can. You can kill off characters. You can turn them [to the Dark Side] if it serves the story. That's something George [Lucas] always warned me about. You know, if you do this, do it for a reason. A reason that kids will understand. But don't just do it to do it."
He also talks about the temptation of bringing such a shocking plot twist into the story. Sure, a good twist is a crowd pleaser, but if there was no reason for it, it's best not to include it in the story.
Aside from Ahsoka turning to the Dark Side, it is also highly possible that Ezra is the one who will be tempted to join the Dark Side this season. Based on the clips that have been released of the show, Ezra's fighting style has become more brutal and aggressive — a sign that he has been tapping into his anger and ruthlessness. Fans just hope that Kanan will be there to point Ezra to the right direction.
"Star Wars Rebels" season 3 premieres on Sept. 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Disney XD.
