'State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition' Review, Xbox One Release Date News: Game Labeled 'Post-Apocalyptic Gem'
Major improvements have been noted by reviewers in "State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition," the remastered version of the game that was released in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and subsequently made its way to the PC.
Although frame rate problems still exist, reviews cited the improved mechanics and design of the game as well as its resolution upgrade.
The game, one of the top selling items on Xbox Live, is due for release on the Xbox One on Tuesday, April 28.
In its review of the game, Polygon said people who have played the game since it was launched in 2013 and have also purchased the expansion packs titled "Breakdown" and "Lifeline" will find very little new additions in the game where players battle hordes of zombies.
IGN, in its review, said the remastered game manages to retain the flavor the version that was released in 2013 and brings an "unpredictable and tense survival experience" to players.
The review noted the technical problems still present in the game. Despite this, IGN described the game as a "post-apocalyptic gem" that is head and shoulders above other games that revolve around killing zombies.
The unforgiving nature of "State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition" was also mentioned in the review by Gamerant. It noted that when a character dies in the game, the player can no longer access him. Instead, the player has to shift into another character and has to learn to use their weapons, tools and skills.
As characters die in the game, their absence also affects the other players. This can be especially hard if the character has been in the game for a long period, has expanded their skills set and become a valuable member in the team.
The game is priced at $29.99, but a discount of 33 percent is available for those who bought the earlier edition on the Xbox 360 or PC.
