'Street Fighter V' gameplay reviews: Criticized for lack of content; Capcom vows to release better performing titles

After video game development company Capcom's recent acknowledgement of the lack of content of the newly released "Street Fighter V," it now plans to work on their games longer if necessary regardless of the delay it may cause.

During Capcom's Financial Results Briefing for the end of its fiscal year, CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto explained that, as per lessons they have learned over the previous years of operations, it is best to allot more time for the development of high-quality titles whose performance will tally global standards. He then cites "Street Fighter V" as a title which needed more polish because of its lack of content and server issues at launch.

"Street Fighter V" had server issues during its beta and at launch, although those glitches have been largely ironed out. In a review by The Guardian, it says that contrary to "Street Fighter IV," "Street Fighter V" feels "lackluster". Additionally, gamers criticize "Street Fighter V" for the apparent absence of several modes, such as the Arcade mode and other functions, which makes the game seem unfinished.

Another noticeable difference between "Street Fighter V" and its predecessor is the removal of the Focus Attack which allows for a straightforward, easy executable move through which incoming attacks can be thwarted, temporarily paralyzing the opponents. The latest "Street Fighter" game offers no direct replacement for the Focus Attack.

It is also said to have a short and low-quality story mode which is very easy as it presents a few fights and narrative bits for the characters and can be completed in at most an hour. Moreover, the current story mode may give the player 100,000 Fight Money which is the game's currency, but the costumes and characters to purchase are not even available as yet.

So far since its February release, "Street Fighter V" has sold 1.4 million copies across PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PC, which is around 600,000 short of Capcom's targeted 2 million figure by March 31, the end of the game developer's fiscal year.

Moving forward, "Street Fighter V" will receive a free cinematic story expansion in June.
