'Street Fighter V' news, updates: Capcom plans to support game until 2020
If some "Street Fighter" fans are planning to wait for a "Street Fighter VI" soon, they better not hold their breath because Capcom is said to have plans to continue adding support to 'Street Fighter V" until 2020.
In an interview with Famitsu (as repoted by Event Hubs), producers Yoshinori Ono and Tomoaku Ayano commented on their plans for "Street Fighter V." When asked about the future of the franchise, Ono said, "It's not just a one-to-two-year thing. We're looking pretty far ahead ... We've planned out as far as 2020 or so."
The team was then asked on whether Capcom had any plans of releasing a game anywhere within that timeline. Ono said that he would be happy if the studio could, but he also went on to say that the company planned on expanding "Street Fighter V" as an established eSports title first. He said, "I said in the beginning that we've seen a higher number of entrants than we had in the 'Street Fighter 4' era, but we'd like to heighten that even further."
"Street Fighter" is surely one of the most dominant titles in the fighting game genre and has been the center of many tournaments among players in the community. With the studio planning on expanding the "Street Fighter V" title over the years, it's a wonder what players can expect from one of the world's most popular video game titles.
As for other games in the franchise, rumors have come out that an announcement for "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" ("MvC") will be coming soon. "MvC," like the "Street Fighter" games, is of the same genre, but it allows players to take control of multiple Capcom characters like Ryu, Chun-Li, Chris Redfield and Phoenix Wright, and pit them against the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America and Doctor Strange.
"Street Fighter V" is currently available for purchase.
