Rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was arrested on Friday after he ran over two men with his truck in Compton, California, killing one of them, after a minor fight, authorities said.

Knight is the founder and CEO of Black Kapital Records and co-founder and former CEO of Death Row Records.

Knight remained in detention at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department West Hollywood station in lieu of $2-million bail after being charged with murder.

Following Knight's arrest, James Blatt, his lawyer, immediately issued a statement on the events leading up to the hit-and-run incident. Blatt claimed the rap music promoter was being threatened by the two men before he "accidentally" struck them.

This was the latest in the long string of run-ins with the law that Knight has had and he has already served time in prison. Before the hit-and-run incident took place on Thursday afternoon, Knight arrived at the scene of a promotional shoot that was taking placing for the biopic on N.W.A titled "Straight Outta Compton."

He then proceeded to argue with people at the spot, according to witnesses. At that time the cast that were part of the biopic and several of the crew were on a break from filming.

Shortly thereafter Knight saw two men – identified as Cle Sloan and Terry Carter – at a nearby fast food restaurant. One of the men allegedly exchanged blows with him as he sat in his truck. Knight then reversed his truck and knocked down Sloan, after which he started driving it forward and ran over him again, according to the unnamed witness who spoke to Sherriff's department Lt. John Corina.

Then as he left the parking lot, Knight ran over Carter who died, the witness said.

Corina stated that Sloan survived the incident and is now in stable in hospital. According to the Daily Mail, witnesses who were present at the scene described Knight as having deliberately run over Carter, killing him.

Knight's lawyer alleged that at least four men were involved in threatening and attacking his client at Tam's Burgers. But this was disputed by Corina who said only one of the men exchanged blows with Knight.

Knight started Death Row Records which mainly deals with hip-hop music along with Dr. Dre who was then part of N.W.A. Many think that Knight went to the filming to talk to Dr. Dre but he and Ice Cube had left by then. Knight was also instrumental in launching the careers of Snoop Dogg and was with Tupac Shakur when the latter was shot dead.
