'Suicide Squad' Harley Quinn movie release date, production news update: 'Bumblebee' screen writer confirmed to work on spin-off movie
Despite mixed reviews, the DC Universe-based movie "Suicide Squad" had successfully endeared the anti-heroine, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) to diehard fans and audiences, greenlighting a spin-off based on the character.
According to recent reports, the Harley Quinn spin-off movie now found a screen writer to work on the film. Christina Hodson, who is also reportedly working on the "Transformers" spin-off, "Bumblebee," is recently signed up to work on the Harley Quinn movie.
In addition, actress Robbie is also going to produce the upcoming spin-off. Robbie reportedly signed a contract with Warner Bros. that would tie-in any movie that is produced by her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
It is also reported that the upcoming movie will not just star Harley Quinn, but it will also feature other female characters from the DC Comics Universe such as Poison Ivy, Cat Woman, and the superheroine team, Birds of Prey. The Birds of Prey group usually consists of female superheroes Batgirl, Black Canary and Huntress.
Speculations also suggest that the upcoming movie might not necessarily center on Harley Quinn's character, but it will mainly be a "Birds of Prey" movie.
Either way, no release date is still announced for the said movie. No director is also reported to lead the movie yet, and filming might not start until next year.
Meanwhile, a confirmed female-centered superhero movie, "Wonder Woman," is already slated for release next year, June 2017, starring Gal Gadot in the titular role.
Harley Quinn is known to be the crazy and manipulative partner of Joker, wherein their relationship is famously tagged as an unhealthy, dysfunctional but addictive one.
Both characters are featured in the "Suicide Squad" movie, which was released in August, also starring Jared Leto as Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, among others.
