'Suits' season 6 news, spoilers: USA eyes spinoff starring Gina Torres; Meghan Markle to leave series?
"Suits" may have said goodbye to Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) this season, but it doesn't necessarily mean that she won't be coming back.
According to reports, the former managing partner of P.S.L. could be getting her own series. USA Network is now in early talks for a possible spinoff which will be led by none other than former "Suits" star Torres. It is reported that there have been negotiations and meetings, but nothing is set in stone yet. The network is also staying mum on the show's potential setting or plot.
Torres, who had been a regular since season 1, decided to leave the series after the current season's summer run due to logistical problems. She currently resides in Los Angeles, while the series films in Toronto. Jessica made her last appearance in September's midseason finale titled "P.S.L." where she was seen heading to Chicago to start a new life with her ex.
The actress filmed the first half of season 6 after her pilot drama "The Death of Eva Sofia Valdes" failed to score an order from ABC. She will next be seen in Shondaland's "The Catch" this spring. Torres has been in the TV industry for over 25 years, but if the "Suits" spinoff is picked up by USA, it would be her first time to become lead star in a series.
In other news, it seems that another major character may be leaving the show. There are speculations that Meghan Markle is exiting the series to move to London and be closer to her boyfriend, Prince Harry. The Toronto-based actress is reportedly quitting as Rachel Zane in "Suits" to focus more on her relationship. While Markle has yet to confirm if the rumors are true, series creator Aaron Korsh already said in December that a major character exit is "certainly not" happening in the near future.
The sixth season of "Suits" airs every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. ET on USA.
