When "Heroes" debuted on NBC in September 2006, it became a huge hit, pulling in a large number of viewers. But in February 2010, or barely four years later, the fantasy series ended on a dismal note with falling ratings.

Then on Sunday during the Super Bowl, a 10-second teaser trailer was released for the new "Heroes Reborn" to the surprise of many viewers. The trailer featured the return of Jack Coleman who played Noah Bennett in the original "Heroes" series.

Coleman played the father of Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere), a high-school cheerleader who can spontaneously regenerate. He was also known as "H.R.G." – short for "Horn Rimmed Glasses," a strange figure who kidnapped people and experimented on them. He was the first member of the original cast who has signed on in the new series.

"Heroes Reborn," which is due to debut sometime this year on NBC, was actually revealed last year when it was announced that "Heroes" would be returning with a new cast but with a few old faces added.

The original series dramatized the stories of seemingly ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities. They later found out they were part of a grand plan to change the world.

NBC said the new show would be a 13-part miniseries and would be foreshadowed by a digital series that would provide more information about the new characters and their storylines.

During NBC's winter press tour, it was announced that Zachary Levi would play an important part in the series but his role was kept under warps.

After the "Heroes Reborn" trailer was shown at the Super Bowl, NBC went ahead and released a much more detailed trailer that featured Coleman looking on as a child created the northern lights in what appeared to be a snow-covered region.

Also seen in the trailer was Levi who appeared to be watching both Bennett and the child from afar through binoculars.

Tim Kring, the creator of the original "Heroes," will be returning as the producer of "Heroes Reborn."

The New York Post reported that he tried to get Zachary Quinto to reprise his role as Sylar but the latter reportedly decided to pass on the offer. This meant that the new show will feature a new villain not seen previously.
