Super Bowl 2015 Half-Time Show Performers Are Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz
Late last year, it was announced that Katy Perry would headline the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 1, but no other acts were announced. Recently this changed when Perry announced that Lenny Kravitz would be one of the special guest performers on the show.
Perry made the announcement of Kravitz's participation in the show following the match between the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots. Speaking to N.B.C.'s Willie Geist, she said her first special guest "is going to be an incredible rock 'n roll icon, a guitar god, Lenny Kravitz."
The songstress described Kravitz as the "king of cool" who's "going to make me so much cooler that day."
Perry also hinted that she and Kravitz might perform "American Woman" as part of the show. Some commentators pointed out that Kravitz could just be one of the special guests on the show and more announcements about other performers would soon come up.
Perry also tweeted that she was "testing out ideas" for the show.
Last year's Super Bowl halftime show was headlined by Bruno Mars and a special appearance by Red Hot Chili Peppers. It ended up attracting 111.5 million viewers. This year by combining Perry's performance with Kravitz, the organizers are hoping they can attract a bigger audience from all demographics.
Yahoo Sports stated that while the collaboration between Kravitz and Perry is welcome, it would have been better if the N.F.L. had stuck with just one main act. In previous Super Bowl halftime shows, having two or three performers on stage failed to satisfy fans, most notably when Britney Spears, Aerosmith and 'N Sync performed jointly in one such event, according to some commentators.
As for other performers in the show, more hints could be revealed when Perry's full length interview with Geist airs on Monday morning on the Today show on N.B.C.
