Super Bowl 2017 prices drop significantly following the Cowboys' loss to the Packers last weekend

Over the course of the last couple of days, prices for this year's Super Bowl event has dropped significantly following the loss of the Dallas Cowboys in a nerve-wracking game against the Green Bay Packers.

That being said, both of the local teams from Texas (Cowboys and the Houston Texans), which will host the upcoming football spectacle, have lost all possibilities of playing at the Super Bowl. This in turn drastically lowered the immense demand for tickets for the event from those that live in the state.

"The threat of the Cowboys playing in a Super Bowl within a four-hour drive of their home stadium was propping up get-in ticket prices to unprecedented levels," Patrick Ryan, co-founder of Eventellect, which is a Houston-based ticket distribution company, told ESPN about the steep prices prior to Dallas' loss. Should the tables be turned, however, and the Cowboys were able to secure a chance in entering the big sporting gathering, prices will significantly increase more given that it will be their first shot at the title in 21 years.

The prices, which approximately already decreased by 25%, now has the cheapest seats at $3,700 — a full $1,000 less before Sunday's game. Average cost in SeatGeek meanwhile is at $4,603 from $6,109 last Friday.

"These are meaningful drops already, but we believe it's just the start as there's no real rush for sellers to drop their prices immediately," TickPick CEO Brett Goldberg said in an email sent to USA Today. "We expect to see prices drop consistently through the week and leading up to the Super Bowl," he continued.

Now, the Super Bowl ring is being contended for by the four remaining teams from NFC and AFC bringing four of the best quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger all trying to get a ticket to Houston. The NFC will bring the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons against each other this Sunday, 3:05 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, the AFC will have the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots going at it on the same day only, at 6:40 p.m. ET. Whoever wins in their respective matches will eventually vie for this season's NHL championship.

This year's Super Bowl will be held at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas at 6:30 p.m. ET. The equally anticipated Pepsi Halftime show will be spearheaded by pop icon, Lady Gaga.
