'Super Mario Run' release date news: Game also coming to Nintendo Switch?
"Super Mario Run," although initially announced to be exclusively released for Apple devices, might be made available to the Nintendo Switch after all.
A NeoGAF user by the name Rosti brought to attention a patent filed by Nintendo dated Sept. 5 that suggests that "Super Mario Run" could also be released in the hybrid console.
It is mentioned there that the game, while coming to smartphones, could also be up for home video game machines," which Rosti believes refers to the Nintendo Switch.
However, the tipster emphasized that this is hardly a confirmation that "Super Mario Run" is coming to Nintendo's next-generation console.
"It is likely just basic practice covering all relevant goods and services. But if they want Super Mario Run on Nintendo Switch they at least have some of the paperwork done (for Japan anyway)," the user stated.
"US and Europe have yet to see any trademark applications related to this title, at least as far as I can tell," he continued.
With that said, "Super Mario Run" might end up being released for the Nintendo Switch after all, which is something that majority of the commenters on the NeoGAF thread will be happy to see happen.
In other news, Nintendo has announced that "Super Mario Run," will be made by Unity, the same company behind the hit augmented reality game, "Pokemon GO."
Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima expects highly of the "Super Mario" game and hopes that Unity will help them attain the level of success that "Pokemon GO" enjoyed.
"Super Mario Run" will be released next month to the iOS. There will be a free trial where limited content such as the maps and levels will be playable. Gamers will have to shell out cash for the full experience.
Nintendo and Apple are yet to announce the pricing, but fans should learn more about it as the launch date nears.
