'Super Mario Run' release date, news, update: all iOS devices getting 'Super Mario' mobile app Dec. 15
After weeks of speculation regarding the exact release date of the first ever "Super Mario" mobile gaming application, Nintendo recently revealed that "Super Mario Run" will be available in iPad and iPhone devices starting on December 15.
As reported by Engadget, "Super Mario Run" can be downloaded for free among the iOS users starting on December 15. The future "Super Mario Run" players should take note, however, that there will only be particular parts of the game that can be played. At least three modes of the game will be available without shedding off some money. Unlocking the full version of the game will cost $10.
The arrival of "Super Mario Run" as the first ever mobile application based on Nintendo's highly popular "Super Mario" game franchise was announced back in the September iPhone event. It was revealed that the game will be released sometime in December for the iOS devices, although the exact release date was not specified back then.
The latest list from Nintendo reveals that at least 151 countries will be able to play "Super Mario Run," and the game will be available to play in 10 different languages, including English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian and traditional Chinese. The requirement of the game is for the iPad or iPhone user to have at least the iOS 8.0 version downloaded on his or her device.
For the non-iOS users still waiting for "Super Mario Run," Nintendo earlier stated that the game will also be released in Android devices, although there is no specified period yet for its release.
On the other hand, mobile gamers at the NEOGAF forum are speculating that "Super Mario Run" will also be released in the latest gaming gadget, Nintendo Switch. Nintendo was noted to have filed a trademark application for "Super Mario Run" via J-PlatPat/INPIT last September, suggesting that the game may be released as a playable game in the Nintendo Switch. After all, the Nintendo Switch is not considered to be a mainstream gaming console.
Bloomberg reported that "Super Mario Run" is poised to become a huge mobile gaming app that will achieve the same feat of Niantic Lab's "Pokemon Go." Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima is expecting that their upcoming "Super Mario" game will do very well in the mobile app market.
