'Supergirl' season 2 spoilers, cast news 2016: Chris Wood boards series as mystery DC Comics character
"The Vampire Diaries" alum Chris Wood is set to join the cast of "Supergirl" season 2 as a series regular.
While no other details about his role have been revealed, TVLine reports that Wood will portray a DC comics character that is yet to be revealed. The outlet also noted that Wood will make his "Supergirl" debut within the first few episodes of season 2.
Apart from his work in "The Vampire Diaries," Wood has also appeared in "Containment" and "The Carrie Diaries." The actor also has a recurring role in the second season of PBS' Civil War medical drama "Mercy Street" as Union soldier Lance Van Der Berg.
Though The CW is keeping Wood's "Supergirl" role a closely guarded secret, Entertainment Weekly suggests that it could be connected to the latest mystery arrival in National City. As "Supergirl" fans recall, the season 1 finale ended with Kara (Melissa Benoist) discovering a Kryptonian pod similar to the one that transported her to Earth.
Wood is the latest major casting addition to a growing list of newbies in "Supergirl" season 2.
Earlier this month, it was announced that "Cougar Town" alum Ian Gomez had been cast in the role of Snapper Carr, a brutally frank and headstrong journalist who Cat (Calista Flockhart) appoints as the new editor-in-chief of CatCo magazine. Snapper is said to be both a mentor and an adversary to Kara and her colleagues.
Floriana Lima, from "The Family," was also cast in the series regular role of Maggie Sawyer, a detective with the National City Police Department.
In the DC Comics, Maggie is an LGBT character who was once in a relationship with Batwoman.
In addition, "Teen Wolf" actor Tyler Hoechlin is television's latest Superman/Kal-El, Supergirl's cousin, and Lynda Carter, the original "Wonder Woman," will appear as the President of the United States.
"Supergirl" season 2 debuts on Monday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
