'Supergirl' season 2 spoilers: Chris Wood's character revealed? Supergirl and Superman will butt heads
"The Vampire Diaries" alum Chris Wood's casting in "Supergirl" season 2 was announced last week. But apart from the fact that he will be playing a character from the DC Comics, no other details about the role were revealed.
Now, a report from Bleeding Cool may have unveiled the mystery surrounding Wood's character.
According to the website, Wood's character is the mystery occupant of the Kryptonian pod that Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) found at the end of the season 1 finale.
In the season 1 ender, a Kryptonian pod, similar to the one that brought the superheroine to Earth, crash-landed outside National City. The episode showed Supergirl finding the pod and opening it, but ended without revealing the identity of the occupant.
According to Bleeding Cool, a "reliable source" has reported that the pod was carrying Wood's character and that Wood will be playing the role of Mon-El.
In the DC Comics, Mon-El was a Daxamite who was sent to Earth on a vessel similar to the one that Superman/Kal-El arrived on. The character eventually became a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
At the "Supergirl" panel at Comic-Con on Saturday, July 23, executive producer Sarah Schechter confirmed that Wood's unnamed character will be revealed to be the occupant of the Kryptonian pod at the end of season 1. However, she did not disclose the name of the character.
Speaking about what to expect in season 2, Schechter hinted at the upcoming conflicts between Supergirl and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin).
"Clark has a very different experience of what it means to have super powers on earth," she said. "There's some head-butting and philosophical approaches that are different. We'll get into that."
The "Supergirl" boss also explained why Superman was not introduced in season 1, saying: "In season 1, the show is about Kara and the show is about Supergirl. It would confuse matters to have Superman there."
"This show is about family, the family you make as an adult and the family you came from," she added. "It makes sense for Kara to reconnect with him now."
"Supergirl" season 2 will air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW starting in the fall.
