'Supergirl' season 2 episode 9 spoilers: Mon-El has a shady secret; Dominators to return in later episodes?
The threat of the Dominators on Earth-1 may have already been averted, but fans of The CW's superhero lineup have not yet seen the last of these invading aliens.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teased an impending visit from the Dominators in a later episode of "Supergirl's" sophomore season. However, since this upcoming event will be happening on Kara's (Melissa Benoist) side of the multiverse, which has just been revealed to be Earth-38, they may come in with a totally different agenda and probably even look slightly different as well.
Kara did mention during the "Heroes v Aliens" crossover event that she knew about the Dominators since they had once visited her home planet of Krypton. However, since Kara's earth has no Barry (Grant Gustin) to mess with course of time, what could possibly motivate an attack from the Dominators?
Theories suggest that it could be something more closely inspired by the comics, wherein the Dominators came to Earth with a coalition of other alien races, including the Daxamites, with the intention of invading the planet. Could this mean that Mon-El (Chris Wood) may have been involved in something bigger, perhaps even shadier, than he's letting on?
The Dominators will not be returning for a while, and in the meantime Kara and his friends have more pressing issues to deal with when "Supergirl" returns after the customary winter break. Lena (Katie McGrath) has proven herself a true ally of justice when she went up against her own mother, Lillian (Brenda Strong). This act of betrayal is surely going to cost her something in the long run, though, since Kreisberg also said in another Entertainment Weekly interview that Lillian and Cadmus are far from being done.
"Sometimes an enemy is deadliest when they are trapped," Kreisberg adds.
Also, Kara and Mon-El kissed, but the Daxamite pretended not to remember. Could the mysterious alien race that's hunting him down be the reason for this? Could he have been sent on Earth as a spy for the coalition, just as he was in the comics? If and when he does turn out to be more than he claims to be, how will this revelation affect his budding relationship with Kara? And speaking of odd relationships, will J'onn (David Harewood) ever find it in himself to forgive M'gann (Sharon Leal) now that he's been cured of the poisonous side effect of her White Martian blood?
"Supergirl" season 2 is scheduled to return with all new episodes on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
