'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers, plot news: more Castiel-centered episodes to be released in season 12B
Several Castiel-centric episodes will be released when "Supernatural" returns for season 12 in 2017.
In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Andrew Dabb teased that Misha Collins' character Castiel will be the center of several episodes. "We have at least three really strong Castiel episodes" the executive producer said. One of them, which is reportedly airing on Feb. 2, will reportedly feature a missing chapter in Castiel's story.
Fans of the series know that Castiel is one of the angels who have been assigned to guard over the Earth. "He was the guy that harrowed Hell to rescue Dean Winchester. We established that, and now we're taking a little twist on it and telling a lost story from his past that involves [guest star] Alicia Witt," Dabb stated.
While the specifics of Witt's character Lily Sunder remain under wraps, early reports claimed that "The Walking Dead" alum will portray the role of Castiel's old enemy who still has an unfinished business with the angel.
Another episode will also feature more of Castiel, but it will no longer involve his past. This will reportedly make up for the lessened airtime of the character in the series since the arrival of the British edition of the Men of Letters, the return of Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith) in Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam's (Jared Padalecki) lives after so many years, as well as the new vessel that Lucifer (Rick Springfield) uses for his evil plans this season.
The upcoming episodes will also shed more light on the new characters in the second half of the season. "We have a lot more room to play," Dabb stated in the interview. "Those characters are going to come to the fore a lot more."
The long-running fantasy horror drama will return to The CW beginning on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017.
