T.D. Jakes Says He Has Not 'Evolved' on Gay Marriage Stance

Well-known megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes of The Potter's House in Dallas, Texas has recently said that he still maintains beliefs in line with evangelical teaching on homosexuality and gay marriage, despite the misinterpretation of a recent interview.

Jakes sought to clarify his position on ministering to homosexual Christians and his stance on same-sex marriage following an interview with HuffPost Live, which some interpreted as Jakes saying that he had "evolved" on his position of homosexuality as sin.

Jakes wrote in a Facebook post over the weekend that he was referencing the evolvement of his approach to ministering to homosexual parishioners, rather than his evolved stance on homosexuality and gay marriage.

"Do not take everything you read online or hear repeated as truth. When asked about the 'black church' and its role in ministering to gay people, I briefly mentioned (we were running out of time) the word 'evolved and evolving' regarding my approach over the 39 years of my ministry to gay people who choose to come to our services," Jakes wrote in his Sunday Facebook post.

"I simply meant that my method is evolving — not my message. I was SHOCKED to read that this was manipulated in a subsequent article to say I endorsed same sex [sic] marriage! My position on the subject has been steadfast and rooted in scripture [sic]."

"For the record, I do not endorse same sex [sic] marriage but I respect the rights that this country affords those that disagree with me," Jakes added.
