'Tangled: Before Ever After' release date, plot news: Rapunzel goes on a new adventure and learns to cherish her hair anew

"Tangled: Before Ever After" may still be weeks away from airing, but the series that it supposedly ushers in has already been renewed for a second season.

Entertainment Weekly has recently shared the good news to fans of Disney's take on Rapunzel's tale. The child-friendly channel announced on Wednesday, Feb. 15, that a "resolute and early commitment" has been decided for the show's second season even before the show itself airs its premiere.

But first, a Disney Channel Original Movie titled "Tangled: Before Ever After" is scheduled to air on Friday, March 10, which will feature Rapunzel grappling with the responsibilities of being a princess while trying to adapt to her father's overprotective nature.

Also, although she loves the reformed thief, Eugene (formerly known as Flynn), with all her heart, she, unfortunately, does not share his immediate desire to get married and settle down. Thus, in keeping up with her determination to live life on her own terms and rules, she goes off on a secret adventure with Cassandra, her tough-as-nails lady-in-waiting. Along the way, they will encounter mystical rocks that mysteriously cause the princess' long blonde hair to grow back.

The original song "Wind In My Hair" is about how Rapunzel will grow to love and embrace everything that her unusually long hair represents once more. Disney has recently released the song as a teaser for the upcoming movie.

Then, two weeks later, on Friday, March 24, "Tangled: The Series" will begin its first season run, which picks up from where the TV movie leaves off, and it will cover the events between the original 2010 movie "Tangled" and its short 2012 follow-up "Tangled: Ever After."

The upcoming episodes will feature Rapunzel's adventures and struggles as she tries to find and understand her place in the kingdom of Corona. The series will also chronicle her growth into the woman who eventually married Eugene in "Tangled: Ever After."

Both Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, who provided the voices of Rapunzel and Eugene respectively, will be reprising their roles along with other old-timers and a host of newcomers, while Alan Menken and Glenn Slater are on board to provide the music.
