2016 presidential hopeful Ted Cruz has recently spoken out to encourage Christians in the U.S. to vote for their biblical values in the upcoming presidential election.

Cruz made his comments while speaking at the American Family Association's radio station this week, saying that "In this last election 54 million Evangelicals stayed home."

"If we can simply bring Christians to the polls, is it any wonder that we have the government we have, we have the leaders we have, if believers stay home and leave electing our leaders to unbelievers? We get exactly what we deserve," Cruz continued, adding "Nothing is more important than having people of faith stand up and vote our biblical values."

Some media outlets report that many conservative evangelicals see Cruz as their ideal candidate for the 2016 election.

At a recent event at Fort Des Moines Church of Christ in Iowa, Pastor Michael Demastus told the Austin American-Statesman that to him, Cruz is the most conservative candidate since Ronald Reagan.

"I don't think we have had a conservative candidate like Ted Cruz probably since Ronald Reagan," Demastus told the media outlet. "He's a fighter. He is somebody who is a champion of true conservative principles, and he is not going to waver. He's a guy who stands up to his own party. He is a guy who can very clearly, effectively communicate conservative principles and values."

Cruz has been campaigning for the conservative evangelical vote along with fellow 2016 presidential hopeful Ben Carson and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
