'Tekken 7' New Character Update Release Date: New Character Coming April 28, Gigas Likened to Batman's Red Bane
"Tekken 7" is due to get a new playable character called "Gigas" at the end of the month, Bandai Namco, the game's publisher and developer, has announced.
The announcement spurred eager gamers to check the arcade version for clues pertaining to the new character.
The game is still confined to arcades in Japan but rumors are circulating that the game could be released for consoles later this year.
Bandai Namco made the new character announcement via a video trailer which focuses on Gigas' many moves. Soon Gigas was being compared to Red Bane from "The Batman" animated series as both have a distinct red body. Like Bane, Gigas also wears a mask and he has a number of tubes connected to his body while others trail behind him.
In addition to design, Gigas' fighting style is also being described as something similar to what Bane uses in the cartoon.
Since Gigas has never been seen in the fighting game series before, his appearance has led to speculations about his origin. Some reviewers described the new character as the offspring of Bane and the predator.
Others pointed towards characters in the Tekken universe, saying that Gigas could have been created after some sort of fusion experiment in a laboratory which resulted in two fighters namely Jack and Marduk being combined into one.
CinemaBlend said Bandai Namco might have just recycled Marduk's moves when it created Gigas and he might not be connected to the other characters in the game.
"Tekken 7" landed in Japanese arcades last February. Gigas will be added to the character roster on April 28.
The game will be the first one developed using Epic's Unreal Engine 4. It is widely expected to be released for consoles in the United States later this year.
