Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Clarke (Eliza Taylor) in "The 100" season 4 promotional still | The CW

The CW's "The 100" started out strong with the premiere of its fourth season's first episode. However, it looks like things will only continue to heat up and be more difficult for the show's characters in the episodes to come.

In the first episode, titled "Echoes," Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and her friends are embattled as they plan for the future of their community with the nuclear apocalypse already in their midst. Clarke contemplated how to break the bad news to her people and eventually decided to make a public announcement.

Later on in the episode, two people in the desert were seen disintegrated, further stressing the danger that will come to the remaining survivors of the human race once the aftereffects of the nuclear apocalypse reach their location.

As if dealing with their impending doom is not difficult enough, the leaders will be faced with an even tougher challenge in the second episode of "The 100" season 4. According to Spoiler TV, the upcoming episode is titled "Heavy Lies the Crown," and its synopsis reveals that "The burden of leading weighs heavily upon Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Bellamy (Bob Morley) when different challenges force them to determine who will live and die."

In a report by Hypable, "Heavy Lies the Crown" is revealed to be, above all else, all about choices. Through the hardships experienced by the current and past leaders of the remaining members of human society, the episode has revealed uncomfortable yet undeniable truths about the burden of leadership. It also adds further to the ultimate message of "The 100" that "there are no good guys."

The upcoming episode is also about loyalty as well as friendship, displaying and testing how much the "100" — or at least what remains of them — love and trust each other in their fight for survival. A lot of things will also be left hanging by the end of the episode, which will open up new and exciting possibilities for Clarke and her people.

"The 100" season 4 episode 2 airs on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
