'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers news: Fallout between Red and FBI happening? All-new plot details bared

Will there be a falling out between Red Reddington and the FBI because of Liz Keen? | The Blacklist/Facebook

Remember the betrayal of Liz Keen (Megan Boone) and Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) in the intricate season 3 finale? Apparently, that same betrayal could be the reason behind Red Reddington's (James Spader) falling out with the FBI.

It seems Red will find himself in a precarious psychological position that would have him thinking everything he does (and is doing) is all for Liz. Nevertheless, Liz's faking her death and leaving behind her identity as Liz Keen was, in Red's opinion, the ultimate rejection.

Executive producer Jon Bokenkamp told The Wall Street Journal that none of the actors knew that the "twist" was happening at all. However, Boone confirmed that her character had planned to betray Red in the season 3 finale because she wanted to learn more about her past and her mother.

Apparently, having a baby changed Liz's perspective, prompting her to move away from Red.

"When she saw that the life of her baby was at risk because Red was in her life, it had gone too far," Boone told Entertainment Weekly. "No matter what her personal reasons for engaging with Red before, they all fell away with the birth of her child."

As for Alexander Kirk a.k.a. Constantine Rostova (Ulrich Thomsen), Liz's biological father, showrunner John Eisendrath said it remains to be seen whether he'll end up a good guy or one of the baddies.

"That's definitely a cliffhanger for next year," Eisendrath said when asked what would become of Kirk. "It's definitely an, 'Oh my God, who really is this person, what's his agenda and what is going to happen to Liz?' We're left with Red and everyone aware of the fact that Liz is alive, and she's also been abducted."

Since Liz would still need all the help she can get in "The Blacklist" season 4, it looks like there wouldn't be a "Red-less future for Liz," according to Boone.

Still, Game n Guide said that season 4 might find Red working with "a very different" Liz and that he would have to "evolve and compensate for her newfound autonomy."

Are the tables really turning? Fans will find out soon enough when "The Blacklist" season 4 returns to NBC on Sept. 22.
