Although "The Conjuring 3" is not official yet, director James Wan already has an idea what storyline to tackle to continue the blockbuster movie franchise, and it appears to involve werewolves.

"Maybe we can go and do it like a classic 'American Werewolf in London' style. That would be awesome," Wan told Cinema Blend referring to the 1991 horror comedy.

The Inquisitr believes that Wan is referring to the case real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated in London, wherein a man was reportedly possessed by a supernatural being that made him act like a werewolf.

"The Warrens set against the backdrop of 'The Hound of Baskerville.' That would be awesome," he explained with a laugh, this time alluding to the famous Sherlock Holmes crime novel of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Wan has also teased that the film might be set in the 1980s since the story in the first two took place in the 1970s. He said that he has something particular in mind, but was coy about it.

With that said, the filmmaker seems to suggest a change in tone for "The Conjuring 3" as well as the setting and timeline, making the movie very different from the successful first two. He also said that they have been looking into more stories involving the Warrens.

"They do have a lot of stories so I think, organically, if we're lucky enough to tell future chapters, there's a lot of stuff we could be pulling from," Wan revealed to IGN.

The director said that they have shortlisted 20 or 30 Warren cases that might be translated to the big screen for "The Conjuring 3" although nothing is set in stone yet.

"The Conjuring 2" was recently released in the cinemas. It debuted with $40 million in ticket sales and has accumulated a whopping $319 million.

With regards to a possible release date, "The Conjuring 3" is projected to hit the cinemas 2019.
