'The Crown' season 2 news: Surprising extramarital affairs to be revealed
Prince Philip is known for his devotion to Queen Elizabeth, so it comes as a surprise that season 2 of "The Crown" will tackle the royalty's supposed extra-marital affairs.
Season 2 will cover the events that happened between 1956 and 1964. Prince Philip (Matt Smith) will become a prominent figure in the upcoming season, from resenting Queen Elizabeth (Claire Foy) because he is forced to give up his career, to battling his own demons as he starts to feel inferior to her. It is this insecurity which may push him to have affairs with TV personality Katie Boyle and actress Pat Kirkwood.
These affairs, however, were denied by the prince when these were raised at the time.
Aside from the prince's affairs, Queen Elizabeth will also need to face two Prime Ministers, as one — Harold Macmillan — replaces another — Antony Eden. Her appointment of the former was heavily criticized by the public, with the media supposedly labeling her as out of touch with reality.
Meanwhile, US President John F. Kennedy (Michael C. Hall) will also be making an appearance in the series, along with his wife, Jackie (Jodi Balfour). Also joining the cast is Matthew Good, who will play Antony Armstrong-Jones, the Earl of Snowdon, who became the husband of Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby). The princess supposedly married him after finding out that Peter Townsend, who she was in a relationship with, was already engaged to another woman.
In terms of the setting, Peter Morgan, the show's creator said that the changing world will be felt in "The Crown." He said: "It's goodbye to a different, Edwardian, post-Imperial world. We get a classlessness and a modernity beginning to creep in. It is going to be terrific."
No date has been given yet on when the show's next season will air. The cast is currently shooting the new episodes.
