'The Crown' season 2 release date, spoilers, news: Upcoming season set to introduce Lord Snowdon

After the failure of one romance in the previous season, Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby) finds new love in the upcoming second season of Netflix's biographical drama series, "The Crown."

Series creator Peter Morgan has reportedly already plotted out the entire series into six seasons, with each season covering a decade in the life of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy). Following this predetermined outline, the upcoming second season will pick up where the first season left off, and it is set to cover the events in the Queen's life between 1955 and 1964.

During this period, the Queen's sister, Margaret, will meet her eventual husband, the Earl of Snowdon, Anthony Armstrong-Jones. The character, more commonly known as Lord Snowdon, will be played by "Downton Abbey" alum Matthew Goode, and he is expected to take Margaret into "a completely new, exciting, dangerous, volatile, dysfunctional relationship" that will ultimately lead to marriage.

"You see these two worlds collide— hers and Tony's, who is a member of the public and was a creative, liberal, dark horse. Meanwhile, she is this epitome of the establishment," Kirby told Vanity Fair in an interview last December.

Aside from the seemingly epic romance that history buffs already know is doomed to fail, season 2 of "The Crown" will also showcase a revolving door of Prime Ministers from Antony Eden, played by Jeremy Northam, and a host of others yet to be cast.

History books will reveal that the period between 1955 and 1964 saw the resignation of Prime Minister Eden after his failure to resolve the Suez crisis. This led to Elizabeth hiring Harold Macmillian in his place, which, in turn, incited much criticism from the press.

In addition to her duties as monarch, Elizabeth will also continue working out the kinks of her marriage to Prince Philip (Matt Smith) and her relationship with her son, Prince Charles (Billy Jenkins), both of whom will be given more focus in the upcoming new season.

Speaking with People, Morgan said, "We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education and on Philip and his back story."

Netflix has yet to set an exact release date for "The Crown" season 2, which is rumored to be not later than November of this year.
