"The Defenders" will soon have Netflix's Marvel heroes team up in New York City, but who they will fight against has not yet been revealed.

"The Defenders" is a Marvel series that will bring together Daredevil (Charle Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) to form their group of superheroes who protect New York City.

Aside from these superheroes, some of their allies from their solo series will also make appearances in "The Defenders." Some of these characters are Karen Paige (Deborah Ann Woll) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) from "Daredevil," and Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Ann Moss) from "Jessica Jones," among others

The reason why The Defenders had to team up is yet to be revealed, along with the villain that all of them will have to work together to fight against. But according to Screen Rant, the mysterious big bad has already been cast, and it's none other than "Aliens" and "Avatar" star Sigourney Weaver.

Weaver is expected to play an evil character that is very strong and powerful, given that Murdock and the rest will have to work together to defeat her. But it seems that before they face Weaver, The Defenders will fight off smaller villains all throughout the eight episode mini-series on Netflix.

There are a lot of speculations as to who Weaver might portray in "The Defenders," and according to Inquisitr, there are two possibilities.

One of them is Celia Ricadonna. According to the Marvel comic series, Ricadonna started out leading her own crime family, which enabled her to have a big pile of fortune. Her type of villain is very much similar to the ones that Luke Cage had to deal with, but later on, Ricadonna inherited powers by having Skrull organs embedded into her body, which gave her super strength, super speed, shape-shifting abilities, and bioelectric energy blasts. Ricadonna's evolved self might just be a handful for The Defenders.

The other possible comic book villain is Medusa. Medusa is actually an Inhuman who was exposed to the Terrigen Mist when she was just a little girl. She is part of the royal family, and her super strength mostly lies in her red voluptuous hair. Each strand of Medusa's hair is stronger in all ways than an iron wire, and she can alter its length and shape at will.

"The Defenders" will debut on Netflix in 2017.
