Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is up against a number of nefarious characters on "The Flash," but a new ally will be introduced to help him fight evil this season.

The back half of season 3 will bring back Gorilla Grodd for an upcoming two-episode arc, and his nemesis, Solovar, will also be introduced. During The CW's TCA presentation over the weekend, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg announced that Keith David has been tapped to voice the frequent Flash ally for this season.

According to reports, Solovar is set to make his DC television debut in episodes 13 and 14 of season 3. Popularly known as Flash's longstanding ally in DC Comics, Solovar serves as the leader of Gorilla City — an area populated by super-intelligent gorillas that can be found in the African jungle. Solovar was introduced back in 1959 in "The Flash #106," which makes him one of the oldest supporting characters in "The Flash" franchise. Because of his super powers and wisdom, Solovar is opposed by the evil Grodd who wants to overthrow him and rule over the entire city.

On another note, season 2 villain Zoom will soon come back to the small screen and wreak havoc as the Black Flash. Kreisberg recently revealed that the character will return in a big way as he crosses over to multiple superhero shows in the network.

In the DC Comics, Black Flash is considered as a "Grim Reaper" of sorts for speedsters since he takes them back to where their powers came from — the Speed Force. The Flash and Zoom had their final encounter back in May when the season 2 finale showed the evil speedster turning into Black Flash.

Speaking with TV Line, Kreisberg explained why they decided to bring the character back. He also teased how Black Flash will become a threat to the heroes of The CW. "He's a classic character, and we have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him return," the EP explained, adding, "There's something so scary about him... he is like the Devil. How do you stop the Devil? It presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears."

The third season of "The Flash" returns on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
