'The Incredibles 2' spoilers: Sequel expected to outperform 'Frozen' in box office, to push storytelling boundaries
"The Incredibles 2" is expected to do better than Disney's "Frozen," the highest-grossing animated film of all time, in the box office.
It is believed that apart from the young ones, fans of the Parr family, who was introduced on the big screen in 2004, will boost the sales performance even more.
This means that "The Incredibles 2" would have to double the sales of the original, which racked up $633 million in ticket sales worldwide. "Frozen" earned a massive $1.2 billion.
The expected success of the long-awaited sequel to the superhero film is being attributed to its old fans and young to come rushing to the cinemas to watch it and of course, the story it will tell.
Despite the demand, Brad Bird, who will be back to direct and write, has shied away from making "The Incredibles 2" as he felt he did not have the right story to utilize for such a sought-after follow-up.
It appears that the filmmaker has finally found the perfect narrative for the film. He told IGN last year that the focus will not be on the superpowers but the people that have them.
"The powers themselves are not that interesting, it's the people that are interesting and how they react to having those powers," Bird said.
"I'm basically sticking with the approach that I had in the movie we did, which is that it's really about the characters than it is about bursting through walls or something like that," he continued.
Bird recently teased that "The Incredibles 2" is going new directions. Fans are hoping that Pixar will push the envelope in the storytelling.
Speculations have it that the sequel will feature the Parr family falling apart only to work back together with a threat that requires the magic of their unity.
Some imagine "The Incredibles 2" to feature Jack-Jack all grown up and unable to control his powers while Dash and Violet are no longer as close to their parents as they were before.
"The Incredibles 2" will be released on Jun. 15, 2018.
