'The Last of Us 2' release date news 2016: Sequel to finally come out in 2018?

When "The Last of Us" was released in 2013, it was a massive hit that fans and critics immediately thought that game developer Naughty Dog was going to start the production of the second installment right away. Three years later, the company has yet to provide concrete details with regard to the development and release of "The Last of Us 2." What's more disappointing is that the latest reports have suggested that fans may have to wait until 2018 before Naughty Dog decides to launch the sequel.

According to a report by Game N Guide, previous reports emerged suggesting that the game developer has already started the production of the second installment. However, it was immediately denied by voice actor Nolan North.

Prior to this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 2016, fans and critics expected the sequel to get announced by Naughty Dog. Despite the rampant rumors about the second installment, the company has decided to skip the upcoming title during the event.

In other news about the rumored game, Chatt Sports Net said that there are speculations circulating all over the Internet saying that Ellie is going to kill Joel in "The Last of Us 2." According to the publication, Ellie decided to kill Joel because of the latter's decision to eliminate members of the Fireflies organization. Ellie has always been instrumental in helping the organization in finding cure to the epidemic.

Meanwhile, there are reports online suggesting that the reason Naughty Dog has yet to start the development of "The Last of Us 2" is the company's focus as of the moment on the "Uncharted 4" DLC. Nonetheless, industry experts are saying that the second installment of the action-adventure survival horror video game should be ready in 2018.

For now, fans should wait for the company to provide significant details with regard to the upcoming title.
