'The Last of Us 2' release date: Sequel still coming; June 2018 launch expected?
Despite the lack of updates, "The Last of Us 2" is still expected to see the light of day in the future. However, fans will have to wait for a while.
There are rumors going around that the sequel is cancelled, but Digital Spy says that the game's arrival was already promised when the original made a big splash in the scenes back in 2013.
"The Last of Us 2" was actually the one that kept Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann busy before he was recruited for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End."
He revealed last year in an interview with GamesRadar that he and game director Bruce Straley were already dreaming up some ideas about the second "The Last of Us" installment.
"I've said this in the past – that when Bruce and I moved over to Uncharted 4, we were brainstorming ideas for The Last of Us 2 with new characters; ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie; ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas," he said.
"And just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4," he went on to say.
He has also implied that when downloadable content (DLC) for "Uncharted 4" was released, it is likely they will go back to working on "The Last of Us 2."
A new expansion pack for the game has actually been released. It is called the "Bounty Hunter" DLC. Despite its launch, Naughty Dog is yet to speak up about "The Last of Us 2."
According to Digital Spy, it might be a long way until fans get to experience the game. The site surmises that a June 2018 launch is possible as that time will mark the fifth year of the original "The Last of Us" release.
