'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' release date, news updates: official slated release in June 2017
Nintendo's upcoming adventure game, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" was anticipated to come out alongside the launch of the company's Nintendo Switch on March 2017 since it is positioned as Nintendo's premiere game.
However, recent reports confirm that the latest installment of "The Legend of Zelda" cannot make it to the launch date of the upcoming Nintendo Switch console. The company is now thinking of "Super Mario Run" to replace it with, although it would seem like a bit of a let-down considering that "Super Mario Run" will be released first on iOS devices by next month.
As to the actual release date for "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," there are conflicting reports about this. According to a Wii U listing, the game will debut on June 13, 2017. Other reports, however, indicate that the release might be earlier than that — putting it at an April release date. In general, speculations put the release date at around the first to second quarter of 2017.
Showcased as the sole Nintendo game during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this year, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" still managed to garner positive reviews from critics and leading video game aficionados.
No reason was officially announced about the game's delay, but fans speculate that the developers might have needed more time to polish the game's expansive and immersive open-world environment. It also needs a good amount of time for testing and further developing.
A reliable tipster, Emily Rogers says that "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is extended up until next year, and before its release, the game needs to be tested for at least four to six months.
Since the game was announced in 2013, this is not the first time that the "The Legend of Zelda" was delayed or pushed back to a later release date. Lately, it was purposely delayed to accommodate the launch of the Nintendo Switch console. In 2015, its release was expected to coincide with the Wii, but that did not come to reality, too.
